About The Position

Perform physical exams and assessments of patients including urgent, emergent, and non-urgent presentations. Select, order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests including X-rays as appropriate in collaboration with supervising physician. Analyze reports and findings of tests to diagnose patients in collaboration with supervising physician as appropriate. Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness and injury in collaboration with supervising physician. Refers patient to PCP or specialist as appropriate. Perform procedures including laceration repair, IVs removal of foreign bodies, splinting and casting, and ear irrigations. Utilizes practice guidelines and standardized procedures in collaboration with the supervising physicians in providing medical care to patients. Performs DOT physicals. Explain procedures, discuss test results, and prescribe treatments to patients. Document findings and treatment courses in patient electronic medical records including follow-up notes. Interact with medical practices and emergency room physicians to create a cooperative atmosphere. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base for medical conditions and injuries that may be present in an urgent care setting.

Requirements

  • Certification of completion from an approved Physician Assistant program.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Maryland.
  • Current DEA license.
  • Current Maryland Controlled Substance license.
  • NRCME DOT examination certificate required.
  • Current BLS Certification through American Heart Association or an approved training center.
  • License to practice in any state that has never been suspended or revoked.
  • Has not been excluded from participation from any Payers.
  • Must have knowledge of computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with prior electronic medical records (EMR) is preferred.
  • Maintains the necessary CME credits to maintain licensure.
  • Must demonstrate ability to stay organized; is able to multi-task effectively.
  • Must demonstrate time management, conflict resolution, and trouble shooting skills.
  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • 1+ years of experience in hospital or outpatient setting preferred.
