About The Position

The Cardiac Surgery PA inpatient position involves working 13-hour days, rotating between days and nights in the cardiac surgery ICU and step-down units. You will work in collaboration with cardiac surgeons and ICU staff. The BWH Cardiac Surgery Service is a 24/7 PA-run service. The Physician Assistant is a licensed provider responsible for the assessment and management of patient populations, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of care plans, and ongoing evaluation. The role provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to patients in inpatient settings.

Requirements

Master's Degree Physician Assistant required
Physician Assistant [State License] - Generic - HR Only required
Thorough knowledge of clinical surgical practices and procedures for cardiothoracic patients.
Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
Ability to maintain quality control standards.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

Nice To Haves

2+ years of experience as a PA preferred.

Responsibilities

Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
