The Physician Assistant/ARNP is a critical part of our team, providing essential services to uphold our values and deliver excellent surgical and clinical care. This role involves working one-on-one with a hand specialist, Dr. John Howlett, and supporting the clinical needs of a wide range of orthopedic patients. The position is office-based, with a split focus across different POA clinic locations, and includes participation in an ER call coverage schedule with a separate stipend. This is an ideal role for a self-motivated and experienced PA-C/ARNP looking to maximize their skill set and expand their clinical knowledge, supporting patients from initial evaluation through post-operative care and continuation of treatment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician’s Assistant or ARNP Program.
  • Washington State Physician Assistant, or ARNP License, Current.
  • Current CPR and BLS from the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced physical assessment and critical thinking skills required.
  • Ability to listen, interact, and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures, techniques, Standards of Care, instrumentation, equipment, and supplies as they directly correlate to the specialty.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Great interpersonal skills; demonstrating patience, composure, and cooperation; working well with all patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Advanced understanding of and adherence to all safety, risk management, and precautionary procedures, including the consistent respect for confidentiality (HIPAA).
  • Using time efficiently, with meticulous attention to detail, accuracy, and completion.
  • Ability to manage multiple factors for the best result.
  • Resourcefulness in addressing first-level problems and tenacity to see things through to solution.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Certification as a physician assistant by the National Commission of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is an asset or ARNP certification.
  • Two years prior experience in surgery preferred.
  • Greater than 5 years' experience.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting/identifying patients and completing/documenting accurate history and physical examinations, which may include positioning patients.
  • Conducting comprehensive or episodic health assessments and developing patient care plans.
  • Ordering and interpreting tests, treatments, and therapies within the scope of practice.
  • Prescribing medications, diet, supplies, prosthetic devices, and other home health aides according to clinical privileges.
  • Administering and/or injecting medications.
  • Performing wound care, applying or removing casts and splints, applying wound dressings, and removing sutures and staples.
  • Instructing and counseling patients regarding the total treatment plan and therapeutic regimens.
  • Providing clear, concise, and accurate information regarding patient care in the medical record.
  • Obtaining and maintaining technical familiarity and proficiency for specific surgical procedures prior to their performance.
  • Remaining proficient in the utilization of commonly used clinical protocols and guidelines.
  • Assisting in surgical procedures if desired.
  • Performing hospital rounds, including patient care, charting, paperwork/documentation, and interacting with patients, families/caregivers, staff, consultants, and discharge planners, especially if covering ER call or working weekends at orthopedic urgent cares.
  • Initiating Basic/Advanced life support in response to emergency situations.
  • Providing education to patients, families, and significant others using established educational materials.
  • Performing other clinical duties within the scope of practice as directed under a patient’s care plan.
  • Advocating for patients, families, co-workers, the community, and the healthcare profession.
  • Integrating evidence-based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision-making.
  • Seeking experiences and formal/independent learning activities to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills and knowledge.
  • Establishing an effective relationship with the supervising physician.
  • Completing duties and assisting others as directed.
  • Following all policies as introduced during new associate onboarding, updated in real-time, and outlined in the Associate Handbook.
