About The Position

HSHS Medical Group is recruiting a BC/BE Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our General Surgery team in Springfield, IL based at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. This APP will work alongside a team of four surgeons and will go with them to the OR as their primary first assist. This APP will also assist with outpatient follow-up appointments and inpatient rounds when they are not in the OR. The clinic is on the hospital campus and is attached to the main hospital to easily access the OR and the inpatient floors from the outpatient clinic and provider office. After hours clinic call required, which consists of phone call only with no obligation to come onsite after hours if a call is received. EPIC EMR in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.

Requirements

  • Unrestricted Illinois license prior to start.
  • Board Certified as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.
  • First Assist Certification (for APRN candidates).
  • Master’s degree in Nursing (or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing PLUS 5 years relevant experience).
  • Licensed in the state of practice as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (WDSPS) or Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in general surgery or another surgical field is preferred, but experience in other specialties will be considered.
  • Doctoral degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Experience in management of patients across the care continuum preferred.
  • Board certification from the National Certification Corporation is preferred.
  • Controlled Substance license in state of practice is preferred.
  • Federal DEA license is preferred.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary first assist in the OR.
  • Assist with outpatient follow-up appointments.
  • Assist with inpatient rounds when not in the OR.
  • Provide phone call coverage for after-hours clinic call.
