About The Position

HSHS Medical Group is recruiting a BC/BE Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join their General Surgery team in Springfield, IL, based at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. This Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work alongside a team of four surgeons, serving as their primary first assist in the operating room. Additionally, the APP will assist with outpatient follow-up appointments and inpatient rounds when not in the OR. The clinic is conveniently located on the hospital campus, providing easy access to the OR and inpatient floors. The role requires after-hours clinic call, which is phone-only with no obligation to come onsite. EPIC EMR is utilized in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Requirements

  • Unrestricted Illinois license prior to start.
  • Board Certified as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.
  • APRNs considered for the position must have a First Assist Certification.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing is required OR Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing PLUS 5 years relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Licensed in the state of practice as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • HSHS requires COVID-19 vaccines or an approved medical or religious exemption for all colleagues.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in general surgery or another surgical field is preferred, but experience in other specialties will be considered.
  • Doctoral degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Experience in management of patients across the care continuum preferred.
  • Board certification from the National Certification Corporation is preferred.
  • Controlled Substance license in state of practice is preferred.
  • Federal DEA license is preferred.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside a team of four surgeons.
  • Go with surgeons to the OR as their primary first assist.
  • Assist with outpatient follow-up appointments.
  • Assist with inpatient rounds when not in the OR.
  • Perform after hours clinic call, which consists of phone call only with no obligation to come onsite after hours if a call is received.
