About The Position

The Division of Acute Care Surgery at Corewell Health West is seeking its twentieth acute care surgeon to join a well-established and growing service line at one of the busiest acute care surgery programs in the country. This role is ideal for a colleague drawn to complex, high-volume work who wants to impact a continuously evolving program. The division comprises nineteen surgeons and nine advanced practice providers who care for traumatically injured, critically ill, burned, and emergency general surgery patients at Butterworth Hospital, an ACS-verified Level I Adult Trauma Center. Butterworth Hospital serves as a quaternary referral center for a region of over 9 million people, with a high volume of emergency room visits and admissions annually. The division is committed to verification and continuous improvement, with active participation in trauma and quality improvement programs. The hired surgeon will rotate through trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care. While not currently recruiting a burn surgeon, all surgeons participate in burn patient resuscitation and care in the surgical ICU. Coverage is structured in 10 and 14-hour shifts, with days, nights, weekends, and holidays distributed equitably. As a main teaching hospital for Michigan State University, the Division supports an ACGME-accredited Surgical Critical Care Fellowship and a General Surgery Residency, offering abundant opportunities for education and research.
