About The Position

The Physical Therapist Resident is a Physical Therapist enrolled in an approved residency training program by the ABPTRFE (American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education). This individual performs initial examinations and provides physical therapy intervention to a specialized patient population. S/he works under the mentorship of Physical Therapy Faculty. The clinician will work in multiple practice settings (inpatient and outpatient) to meet requirements as set forth by the Description of Residency Practice.

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program
  • Collective bargaining unit: PTCNC-MSH

Responsibilities

  • Performs initial examinations, establishes appropriate goals, plans and implements treatment interventions, performs timely re-examinations and modifies goals and treatment interventions accordingly. Coordinates with other disciplines when indicated.
  • Completes patient care documentation requirements in a timely manner, i.e., initial examinations, progress notes, monthly summaries and discharge summaries.
  • Provides education and training to patients, family members, and/or caregivers as appropriate.
  • Recommends appropriate durable medical equipment in coordination with appropriate team members. Writes letters of medical necessity when indicated.
  • Participates in discharge planning, makes recommendations for continued physical therapy and provides home exercise programs when appropriate.
  • Collaborates with Faculty/Mentor on patient care, research, projects, and educational opportunities.
  • Attends grand rounds, educational conferences, webinars and didactic learning experiences.
  • Participates in related community outreach activities.
  • Meets all requirements as set forth by the MSH Residency Program, including quizzes and written/live examinations.
  • Must adhere to all MSH policies and procedures.
