About The Position

Physical Therapist Assistant assists in the provision of care utilizing established policies and procedures, ensuring safe and effective care. Services are provided based on ages of the population served; Children through geriatric - 65 years or older and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team. The Physical Therapist Assistant is under the supervision of the Physical Therapist, following the established plan of care, collects patient care data, reports and documents findings, assists team to meet patient treatment goals. The Physical Therapist Assistant reports to the Director of Rehabilitation and Performance Services.

Requirements

Completion of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
In compliance with patient safety standards, must be able to effectively communicate in English
Current California and Nevada Physical Therapist Assistant licenses. Physical Therapist Assistant License Applicants may be considered, but full license for State of California must be obtained within 3 months of employment and State of Nevada license within 6 months of employment.
Current CPR/BLS certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for the Healthcare Provider) or ability to obtain prior to start date.
Ability to follow written and oral directions

Must have the proven ability to maintain confidentiality

Nice To Haves

2 years previous experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant preferred
Newly graduated Physical Therapy Assistants may be considered contingent upon related experience
Bilingual abilities preferred

Responsibilities

Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.
Contributes to physical therapist's effectiveness by identifying patient care issues; providing information and commentary; recommending options and courses of action; implementing physical therapy directives.
Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying therapy histories.
Assesses abnormal conditions by reviewing physical therapist's interpretations of patient evaluations and test results.
Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
Performs therapeutic procedures by administering manual exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities, such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and daily-living activities; and in using supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.
Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information; promoting wellness and health maintenance.
Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.
Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
Provides performance coaching for clients in the Bridge program.
Maintains production objectives by noting current treatment trends; monitoring actual physical therapy services rendered to production objectives.
Maintains legal and accreditation compliance by adhering to policy positions concerning federal, state, and local regulations, and TJC standards; anticipating emerging issues.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Enhances physical therapy and hospital reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Occasional travel or rotation assignment to various health system locations.
Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties as necessary.
