About The Position

Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) work under the guidance of certified Physical Therapists to provide supportive patient care to people recovering from illnesses and injuries. They collaborate with the Physical Therapist regarding each patient’s condition and the treatments they will assist with during their session. PTAs are responsible for staging the treatment area with appropriate exercise equipment and adaptive tools, sanitizing the area, removing potential hazards, and ensuring sufficient space for treatment. Additionally, PTAs perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, updating patient records, and providing information and resources to family members or caregivers.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited university
  • Excellent written communication skills and people skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Strong Background in treating stroke (CVA) patients
  • Strong Background in assisting Patients with Standing and Pivoting transfers

  • Experience working effectively in a diverse environment is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Help patients stretch and exercise certain muscle groups
  • Read instructions from Physical Therapist
  • Collaborate directly with Physical Therapist to assist patients
  • Speak with families to find the best at-home techniques
  • Keep the physical therapy work area clean and organized
  • Move patients from wheelchairs or walkers to the physical therapy area
  • Complete administrative tasks, like scheduling appointments and filing paperwork
  • Teach patients techniques like balance training
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Complete gait training using a Single point cane, Rolling Walker, Hemi Walker, Rollator
  • Be aware of hip replacements and precautions to follow pending an Anterior or Posterior approach from a surgeon
  • Be aware of Total Knee Replacements and how to demonstrate PROM (Passive Range of Motion) correctly for knee flexion and extension
  • Communicate with Supervising PT regarding anything with the patient
  • Complete notes within a 24-hour period for billing
  • Call to schedule patients’ prior day before seeing
