About The Position

A qualified professional who provides physical therapy services to patients as prescribed by the attending physician under the direct (but not on-site) supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. The PTA is primarily a non-office setting and may be exposed to outdoor conditions. The working conditions are classified as medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Medium work involves sitting and standing.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current, valid PTA license issued by NYS Department of Education required.
  • One year of practical experience as a licensed Physical Therapy Assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Treat patients to relieve pain and/or develop or restore function to reach the highest level of independence possible.
  • Instruct patients and their families in the use of prosthetic, orthotic and assistive devices (canes, walkers, wheelchairs, etc.).
  • Write clinical progress notes on the date of the visit for inclusion into the patient’s permanent record.
  • Attend Physical Therapy staff meetings, conduct in-service presentations and case conferences.
  • Perform an on-site, joint visit with the assigned Physical Therapist initially, and communicate regularly for instruction in changes in the patient’s program.
  • Communicate regularly with the case manager and other health care professionals assigned to a case.
  • Instruct patients and their families in transfer techniques, home exercise program and activities of daily living as assigned by the physical therapist.
  • Other duties as assigned.
