About The Position

The Physical Therapy Assistant will provide physical therapy treatment to patients in accordance with an established treatment plan as directed by a physical therapist. This role requires demonstrating knowledge and ability to apply therapeutic principles and practices within the scope of professional limitations, and progressing patients skillfully and safely through treatment levels. The assistant will consult with the supervising Physical Therapist regarding patient progress, changes in condition, or treatment revisions. Responsibilities include documenting all treatments and patient interactions according to UHealth policies, developing effective communication with patients, families, and the rehabilitation team, and providing relevant education to patients and families. The role also involves utilizing treatment tools and equipment safely, maintaining productivity, and participating in quality and safety improvement activities. Maintaining patient confidentiality according to federal, local, and state guidelines, including HIPAA, and adhering to University and unit-level policies are also key aspects of this position. Requirements

  • Associate Degree in relevant field
  • Certification in relevant specialty or field
  • Graduate of a Physical Therapy Assistant program approved by the APTA
  • Holds a current state license as a Physical Therapist Assistant

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of relevant experience preferred
  • New graduate, entry-level accepted, although some experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide physical therapy treatment to patients in accordance with an established treatment plan as directed by a physical therapist.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and ability to apply therapeutic principles and practices within the scope of professional limitations.
  • Progress patients skillfully and safely through the levels of treatment within the maximum capabilities of the patient.
  • Consult with supervising Physical Therapist regarding patient progress, changes in patient’s condition, or with suggestions for revisions in treatment.
  • Documents all treatments and other pertinent patient interactions in accordance with UHealth policies.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication with the patient, family, and other members of the rehabilitation team.
  • Provides relevant education and information to patients and families regarding medical conditions, home exercise programs and home activities.
  • Utilizes treatment tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Maintains a satisfactory level of productivity and demonstrates willingness to adjust personal schedule in case of crisis and real clinic need.
  • Participates in quality and safety improvement activities.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal, local, and state guidelines and regulations, with strict adherence to HIPPA regulations.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
  • Participate in quality and safety improvement activities as directed by the Departmental leadership.
  • Participate in program development and marketing efforts as directed by the Departmental leadership.
  • Orient, instruct and direct work activities for support personnel as appropriate.
  • Actively pursue professional growth through professional affiliations with associates and attendance at workshops and conferences.
  • Demonstrate punctuality, reliability and accountability in daily responsibilities.
  • Maintains respectful and professional communication with patients, families and colleagues.
  • Accepts feedback constructively and seeks guidance when needed.
  • Aligns with organization goals and directives.
  • Adheres to institutional policies, ethical standards, and patient confidentiality.
