The Staff Physical Therapist Assistant assists the Staff Physical Therapist with resident-related activities and direct resident care. This role involves treating residents as directed by the Physical Therapist, completing timely and accurate documentation, and maintaining a safe treatment environment. The PTA participates in resident care conferences and rehabilitation meetings, and for California PTAs, must adhere to specific state regulations. They also assist the nursing department with training Restorative Aides and communicate regularly with the supervising physical therapist regarding resident progress, goals, and discharge planning. Additionally, the PTA provides in-services on training programs, educates residents and families on treatment plans and safety, and recommends necessary durable medical equipment to promote resident independence. Maintaining confidentiality of resident and company information, reporting equipment issues, and contributing to quality assurance initiatives are also key aspects of this role. The ability to relate positively with residents, families, staff, and colleagues is essential.
