The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) will work under the supervision of a Physical Therapist (PT) to provide direct patient care. This role involves assisting in the planning, development, organization, and evaluation of physical therapy activities. The PTA will facilitate Telehealth services, communicate with other departments, and maintain departmental standards. They will interpret therapy recommendations to residents and families, participate in care conferences and discharge planning, and assist in instructing residents and families on home programs and adaptive equipment. Documentation, accurate billing, and administrative duties are also key components of this role. The PTA will assist in interviewing residents to assess their abilities and limitations, and work towards goals outlined in the Plan of Care, documenting progress and any challenges. They will help determine appropriate treatments, schedule services, prepare residents for therapy, and administer treatments according to established procedures. The PTA will also demonstrate procedures to residents and staff, perform therapy in resident rooms if necessary, and reassure residents during sessions. Adapting equipment, promoting participation in activities, and recommending modifications to treatment plans are also responsibilities. Ensuring notes are informative and descriptive, and providing individualized physical therapy services are crucial. Additionally, the PTA will participate in staff development, in-service training, and workshops to stay current in the field. They must follow safety and sanitation standards, including infection control procedures and universal precautions, and maintain a clean and safe therapy area. The PTA will manage and report on necessary materials, equipment, and supplies, and operate equipment safely. Resident rights are paramount, including honoring refusal of treatment, informing residents of consequences, and reporting complaints. The PTA must adhere to HIPAA requirements and report medical concerns to the nurse and therapy supervisor. The role involves working in various environments within the facility and interacting with diverse individuals. This is a temporary, full-time position for 6 months.
