About The Position

Information about patient treatment is communicated in oral and/or written form in a concise, informative, and timely way and in accordance with all regulatory requirements. Support staff or students participating in the care of the patient are supervised to assure the appropriateness and effectiveness of care.

Requirements

Associate's degree from an accredited physical therapist assistant program.
Current licensure to practice as a physical therapist assistant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Good oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and other healthcare providers.
Good organization and time management skills to manage patient case load.
Ability to attend to detail more than 60% of the work time.

Assists in orientation and training of new staff as appropriate, and may assume responsibility for supervision of aides and/or P.T.A. students after obtaining one year of work experience.

Responsibilities

Collaborates with the treating physical therapist to develop and implement treatment plans and goals.
Administers appropriate therapeutic techniques accurately and continuously monitors the patient's response to treatment, informing the treating physical therapist of changes in status or functioning.
Documents patient care accurately and in a timely way in the medical record and as needed to facilitate continued care or billing.
Confers with the patient and/or family, referring physician, staff, vendors, or other facilities to facilitate or coordinate care, obtain patient equipment, or assist with discharge planning.
Maintains and enhances professional knowledge and skills through participation in continuing education programs, professional organizations, and/or review of professional literature.
Assists in orientation and training of new staff as appropriate, and may assume responsibility for supervision of aides and/or P.T.A. students after obtaining one year of work experience.
Participates in departmental meetings, projects, and ongoing performance improvement activities.
Participates in in-services, rounds, orientations, and committees within the hospital and/or the community to advance understanding of physical therapy services and contribute to patient care and employee safety.
Follows hospital and department policies with special attention to safety, dress, attendance and punctuality, and display of ID badge.
Subscribes to hospital’s mission statement, code of ethics, and standards of conduct.
Handles all work-related information in a confidential manner, as outlined in Confidentiality Policy B.91.
Recognizes and respects each patient’s right to privacy, and understands that this is protected by statute.
Understands that looking up patient information not needed for job duties is prohibited and is grounds for immediate dismissal.
Treats customers with courtesy and compassion and responds to requests in a timely manner.
Works effectively with members of the team so that they meet constantly changing needs and deliver care that is customer oriented and cost effective.
Demonstrates initiative and creativity to continuously improve services, departmental and interdepartmental processes, and any other activities that affect quality.
Plans, organizes, and renders care for (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric) patients within an assigned area.
Performs work responsibilities while staying in compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
Understands and agrees to uphold the Hospital Compliance Plan.
When taking a telephone order, writes the order on the Doctor’s Orders, reads the order back to the MD and document as a TORB.
When taking a verbal order, repeats the order back to the MD prior to implementing the order and documents as a VORB.
Uses only accepted abbreviations when documenting in the medical record.
Uses two unique patient identifiers prior to treatment or patient transport.
Consistently uses sharps devices as designed to prevent injury.
Complies with Isolation Guidelines; wears appropriate personal protective equipment as required by specific patient precautions.
Consistently complies with CDC Handwashing Guidelines.
Cleans hands before and after patient contact, or contact with patient environment.
