About The Position

The primary purpose of this job position is to perform assigned duties efficiently, in accordance with established procedures, and as directed by a supervisor, to ensure a successful, viable department is maintained and excellent patient care is delivered. The Physical Therapy Assistant assists the Physical Therapist in patient care activities and performs procedures delegated to them that are commensurate with their education and training. The extent of participation in activities depends on the organizational structure, size of the physical therapy service, and individual patient health needs. The assistant also carries out designated tasks required for the operation of the service.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a two year college program for Physical Therapy Assistant that leads to an Associate Degree and that has been approved by the American Physical Therapy Association
  • Eligibility for state licensure or registration in the state where employed
  • Health status appropriate to the physical and emotional demands of the job
  • Basic knowledge in anatomy, physiology, neurology, pathology, psychology, therapeutic exercises, muscle testing, therapy modalities, manual therapy, and goniometric measurements
  • Ability to work with patients of various ages, both medical and surgical
  • Be able to meet emergencies when they occur
  • Be certified to administer CPR as needed
