About The Position

The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) plays a critical role in supporting licensed physical therapists in delivering high-quality rehabilitative care to patients recovering from injury, surgery, or managing chronic conditions. This position involves implementing treatment plans designed by physical therapists, monitoring patient progress, and adjusting therapeutic activities as needed to optimize recovery outcomes. The PTA works closely with patients to provide hands-on therapy, educate them on exercises and mobility techniques, and ensure safety throughout the rehabilitation process. Additionally, the role requires meticulous documentation of patient responses and communication with the healthcare team to facilitate coordinated care. Ultimately, the PTA contributes significantly to improving patients' physical function, independence, and overall quality of life through compassionate and skilled therapeutic interventions.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
  • Current and valid state licensure or certification as a Physical Therapy Assistant in the United States.
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification.
  • Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and therapeutic exercise principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and healthcare team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in outpatient, inpatient, or rehabilitation settings.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Additional certifications such as CPR or specialty therapy techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse patient populations including pediatric and geriatric patients.
  • Continuing education in advanced therapeutic modalities or patient care techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physical therapists in executing individualized treatment plans for patients with various musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.
  • Provide therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and modalities such as ultrasound or electrical stimulation under the supervision of a physical therapist.
  • Monitor and document patient progress, reporting any changes or concerns to the supervising physical therapist promptly.
  • Educate patients and their families on home exercise programs, proper use of assistive devices, and injury prevention strategies.
  • Maintain a safe and clean treatment environment, ensuring all equipment is properly sanitized and functional.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare professionals to support comprehensive patient care.
  • Adhere to all regulatory, ethical, and organizational policies and procedures related to patient care and confidentiality.
