About The Position

Mary Cariola Center is seeking a Physical Therapist to provide comprehensive physical therapy services to school-aged students. This role involves developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), consulting with staff and parents, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to support student development. The therapist will also be involved in designing and obtaining adaptive equipment and maintaining documentation. Requirements

  • Master's degree (M. A.), Bachelor's degree (B.A.) Or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy
  • Have or be in pursuit of New York State licensure.
  • Adheres to professional, ethical and legal standards of Physical Therapy practice including maintaining appropriate State Licensure and other credentials.
  • Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents and Agency personnel.
  • Fully engages in educational, behavioral and clinical services to ensure that all students are receiving an appropriate and complete educational program.
  • Provides safe, attractive, organized, functional, healthy, and clean clinical environments for students.
  • Implements school policies, procedures and/or processes for the purpose of complying with mandated requirements.
  • Uses effective presentation skills when addressing students, staff, parents, and the community including appropriate vocabulary and clear use of visuals.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to the cultural diversity of others.

Responsibilities

  • Provides students with sound clinical programs to meet their physical therapy needs as outlined on their Individual Education Plan (IEP), which may be conducted in individual or group sessions.
  • Provides on-going consultation, training, and support for classroom staff to carry over therapeutic programs.
  • Works cooperatively with team members in the evaluation and development of prescriptive feeding programs designed to improve oral motor abilities.
  • Attends various discipline related meetings and inservices (e.g. team meetings, department meetings, program meetings, staffings, staff development days).
  • Works closely with parents to provide appropriate home programs.
  • Works cooperatively with the interdisciplinary team responsible for coordinating and implementing goals and recommendations for each student.
  • Designs and/or obtains adaptive positioning systems necessary to provide proper alignment and facilitate independent movement patterns (e.g. wheel chairs, standers).
  • Participates in the design and/or modification of adaptive equipment or devices (e.g. utensils, switches).
  • Maintains written documentation in accordance with departmental and agency regulations.
  • Understands the psychological, social, and medical characteristics of the population served by the Agency.
  • Provides clinical instruction for future therapists according to each college's requirements and the OT/PT department student guidelines.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Benefits

  • Salary Range: $55,151 - $75,000 Annually
