About The Position

Our Victory Learning Center Program is expanding, and new classrooms will be opening in 2026! Be a part of our growth—join our team and help us make a difference! We are seeking a Physical Therapist to plan and provide therapeutic interventions for students with disabilities. Our Victory Learning Center Programs offers specialized educational services for students who are diagnosed with Autism or a Cognitive Disability paired with a mental health diagnosis. There are two separate sites conveniently located in Lackawanna, NY, with a third site opening in September 2026! Our schools service students ages 5-21, who are residentially placed or are referred through their local school district's Committee on Special Education. Victory Learning Center is seeking a Physical Therapist to work with students aged 5 to 21, primarily diagnosed on the Autism spectrum, with mental health and/or behavioral concerns, and developmental or intellectual disabilities. The Physical Therapist will collaborate with other educators to plan and implement appropriate therapeutic interventions tailored to the individual needs of students. This role involves creating a flexible and supportive environment where students can engage in specialized physical activities that promote motor skills, coordination, strength, and overall physical well-being. The therapist will work in various educational settings, providing individualized and group therapy to students based on their IEP needs.

Requirements

  • Requires the ability to utilize computer systems and software necessary to perform position functions.
  • Requires effective oral/written communication and interpersonal skills for interactions with various individuals both internal and external to the program.
  • Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Significant problem solving and diagnostic skills with the ability to quickly analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Ability to handle stressful and sensitive situations in a professional manner.
  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program with a Master’s Degree (grandfathered Bachelor degree programs accepted)
  • 1-2 years of pediatric experience is required
  • Current New York State Physical Therapy License and Registration
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License
  • Minimum of 36 hours of Continuing education per licensing period (3 years) as per NYS Office of Profession guidelines

Responsibilities

  • Reviews all available documentation related to the individual prior to beginning treatment; including the IEP, script and prior evaluations if available.
  • Develops an appropriate treatment plan for each individual.
  • Provides direct physical therapy services to students both individually and in group settings according to IEP and accepted professional standards and practices.
  • Monitoring student progress and adjusting therapy plans as necessary to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Performs appropriate parent/caregiver education and develops home programs as necessary.
  • Submits weekly notes and billing based on agency requirements.
  • Works as part of an multidisciplinary team, utilizing communication with all team members to enhance the treatment program of the individual.
  • Maintains an accurate schedule.
  • Submits all required documentation of visits according to established procedures.
  • Performs evaluations as assigned and when necessary.
  • Communicates with families on a regular basis.
  • Keeps abreast of legal responsibilities, professional ethics, standards of practice and agency rules, policies and regulations.
  • Provides for own professional growth by attending continuing education and in services; tracking this to assure compliance with state licensing requirements.
  • Discontinues therapy when child no longer meets eligibility requirements.
  • Maintains client confidentiality with HIPPA/FERPA and agency guidelines.
  • Maintains professional appearance, follows agency dress code.
  • Attends CSE meetings for individuals on caseload as required.
  • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by their direct supervisor.
