About The Position

Under a valid referral process, this role carries out an individualized program of physical therapy, including assessment, treatment, planning, implementation, education, and effective communication to maximize a patient’s progress toward achieving functional goals. Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice, seeking excellence by utilizing evidence-based or best practice techniques. The therapist must have knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of the population age groups receiving services. They are expected to be kind and welcoming to all, regardless of gender, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, or other factors. This role involves counseling patients and their families/caregivers about test results and recommended treatment options, and engaging them in goal setting and treatment decision-making. The position requires appropriate supervision of Physical Therapy Assistants and appropriate use of Rehabilitation Aides. Continuous monitoring of patients’ functional needs and progress, adjusting the plan of care as needed, is essential for optimal patient outcomes. Clear, concise, and timely documentation, including evaluations, plans of care, daily treatments, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other patient-related communications, is required. The role demands integrity through compliance with insurance regulations, accountable billing procedures, judicious use of patient resources, and HIPAA rules. Maintaining efficiency through effective use of downtime is also important. Compliance with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, Quality Improvement programs, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards is mandatory. Supportive interaction with ancillary staff, including clear communication with front office staff and compliance with department procedures for scheduling, cancellations, and no-shows, is expected. Encouraging innovation through professional growth and development of self and others via educational programs, in-services, and workshops, and staying current with professional literature are key aspects. Communication should be kind and respectful to maintain positive working relationships with all health professionals, ancillary staff, patients, and caregivers/families. The ability to remain calm in emergency or crisis situations is also necessary. Marginal functions include serving as a Clinical Instructor for Physical Therapy students, allowing observation by and providing mentorship to high school or undergraduate students, and promoting the profession and organization through participation in in-services and community education events. Other duties as assigned may also be part of this role.

Requirements

  • Current Oregon licensure as a Physical Therapist or eligibility and evidence of application for licensure.
  • Pelvic floor physical therapists will have completed at least level 1 training through a training institution widely recognized by the profession.
  • Computer literacy skills.
  • Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, and reach frequently.
  • Possesses physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs.
  • Must be able to see, hear and speak with or without assistive devices.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds during patient mobility occasionally and 25 pounds or less frequently utilizing proper body mechanics.
  • Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone.
  • Proficiency in executive function skills, including planning, organization, focusing attention, flexible thinking/problem solving, memory, self-monitoring, and juggling of multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Clear and timely documentation of other conversations with or regarding patients (e.g. telephone encounter to document any discussions with patients, providers, vendors, etc.)

  • Maintains good efficiency through effective use of downtime that occurs through patient no shows and/or cancellations.
  • Complies with hospital and departmental policies and procedures, Quality Improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Supportive to ancillary staff. This includes clear communication with front office staff and compliance with department procedures for scheduling, cancellations, no-shows, and any other duties primarily associated with the front office.
  • Encourages innovation by enhancing professional growth and development of self and others through participation in educational programs, in-services, and workshops.
  • Keeps up to date on professional literature.
  • Communicates in a kind and respectful manner to maintain a positive working relationship with all health professionals, ancillary staff, patients, and caregivers/family.
