Under a valid referral process, the Occupational Therapist carries out an individualized program of occupational therapy, including assessment, treatment, planning, implementation, education, and effective communication to maximize a patient’s progress toward achieving functional goals. Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice, seeking excellence by utilizing evidence-based or best practice techniques. The role requires knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of various age groups. The therapist will provide counseling to patients and families, involve them in goal setting and treatment decisions, and appropriately supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants and Rehabilitation Aides. Continuous monitoring of patients' functional needs and progress, adjusting the plan of care as needed, is essential. Clear, concise, and timely documentation of evaluations, plans of care, treatments, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other patient-related communications is required. The position demands integrity through compliance with insurance regulations, accountable billing procedures, judicious use of patient resources, and HIPAA rules. Maintaining efficiency by effectively using downtime and complying with hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control standards, is also crucial. The role involves supporting ancillary staff through clear communication and compliance with department procedures. Encouraging innovation and professional growth through participation in educational programs and staying updated on professional literature is expected. Communication should be kind and respectful to maintain positive working relationships. The ability to remain calm in emergency or crisis situations is necessary.
