The Physical Therapist evaluates patients within 24 hours or one business day of physician referral. If an evaluation cannot be completed within that timeframe, the reason for the delay must be documented in the medical record. The therapist develops effective treatment plans, obtains approval from the referring physician, and provides treatment according to the physician’s plan. The role also supports restorative care, supervises PT assistants, aides, and students, and works with patients, families, nursing staff, and other members of the care team. The position requires documentation of evaluations, treatment notes, progress, recertifications, and treatment changes in accordance with state practice requirements, facility policies, and payer requirements. The therapist participates in care conferences, utilization review and rehabilitation meetings, staff training, discharge planning, and caregiver education. The therapist also recommends and facilitates ordering durable medical equipment to support patients’ mobility and independence, and reports equipment problems so it can be kept in working order. A bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy is required; graduates of a master’s or doctoral program are preferred. The therapist must be licensed in the state, maintain the license in good standing, and meet continuing education requirements. The role requires computer proficiency, including data entry into systems such as Casamba and Point Click Care, as well as communication, reading comprehension, mathematical, and practical problem-solving skills. The work environment is generally low to moderate in noise. The essential functions involve frequent standing or walking, reaching, pushing or pulling, talking or hearing, and tasting or smelling; occasional sitting and climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and exertion of significant force to move objects.
