The Physical Therapist will interpret physician referrals and complete musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and/or integumentary evaluations. They will establish a plan of care, implement individual treatments based on evaluation results and functional goals, and utilize appropriate techniques. The role involves monitoring and evaluating outcomes, adjusting treatment plans based on patient response, and providing status updates to physicians and other teammates. The Physical Therapist will also identify and address factors affecting patient's physical and psychosocial comfort, plan for patient discharge including providing written home programs, patient/family teaching, referral for community services, transition planning, and ordering equipment. Communication and collaboration with appropriate stakeholders are essential for optimum patient care. The role requires completing all required documentation following department policy and accreditation standards, including patient evaluations, progress notes, team conference reports, and discharge summaries. Daily statistics, billing, and scheduling must be completed, along with applying insurance guidelines regarding authorization and number of visits. The Physical Therapist is responsible for maintaining productivity standards, understanding and adhering to billing and documentation policies, procedures, and timelines, and maintaining a clean and orderly work area. They will perform various manual techniques, patient positioning, transferring, and transporting duties, requiring lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique. Skill in the use of modalities, exercise equipment, and other devices is necessary, along with knowledge of indications and contraindications. Promoting patient safety through participation in safety initiatives and adherence to safety and infection control measures is crucial. The role involves participating in performance improvement activities, managing assigned caseload, and assisting with coverage as needed. Professional growth is encouraged through continuing education, department in-services, and professional literature. The Physical Therapist may also orient new staff, participate in co-worker evaluations, and supervise physical therapy assistants, extenders, and students.
