Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited physical therapy program.
  • At least 1 year of related experience.
  • Meet all Employee Health Requirements.
  • Current Physical Therapy license, registration, and/or certification as per state regulations.
  • BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provides high quality patient care and assessment in accordance with established practice standards and policies in a safe environment.
  • Reviews patients’ medical history, referrals and physician notes from the patient charts or other medical records.
  • Establishes a plan of care to improve patients’ functions and movement.
  • Provides treatment in accordance with physician’s orders and established plan of care.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of treatment plan and revises plan of care as indicated.
  • Administers treatment programs for patients including therapeutic exercises and activities, and application of physical modalities (heat, cold, light).
  • Evaluates and records patient’s progress, modifies plan of care, and discusses with physical therapy assistants an established plan of care and treatment procedures.
  • Educates patients and their families on the recovery process and trains families/caregivers on how to perform patient care.
  • Assesses patient health by interviewing patients, performing physical examinations, and obtaining, updating and studying therapy histories.
  • Documents patient care services promptly on medical charts.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures by administering exercises and instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities, ambulatory functional activities, and activities of daily living.
  • Determines appropriate assistive devices such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.
  • Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens, giving normal growth and development information, and promoting wellness and health maintenance.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations and adhering to infection control policies and protocols.
  • Maintains production objectives by noting current trends and monitoring actual physical therapy services rendered to production objectives.
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and correct application of clinical techniques, procedures, and programs for the clinical setting and patient populations served.
  • Plans and makes appropriate discharge plans.
  • Assesses the risk for safety and implements appropriate precautions.
  • Utilizes appropriate leadership skills in delegating, organizing, and educating coworkers and staff.
  • Participates and contributes to quality improvement processes.
  • Makes effective use of patient schedule and time by achieving efficiency standards (e.g., visits per day and evaluations).
  • Identifies assigned rotation/floor needs.
  • Contributes to the development and updating of files and other pertinent resource material.
  • Collects data required to complete research projects, clinical outcomes studies, and/or department quality improvement projects in compliance with Three Crosses and Joint Commission standards.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for other healthcare professionals.
  • Provides in-service education to staff for the department and other hospital staff.
  • Attends staff meetings as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
