About The Position

Ivy Rehab is seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist (PRN, up to 19 hours/week) for their Full Circle Breast Cancer Recovery Program in Garden City, NY. This specialized role focuses on providing individualized treatment for individuals throughout all phases of their breast cancer journey and recovery. The clinic is part of the larger Ivy Rehab Network, which offers a wide range of therapy services across numerous locations and emphasizes a culture of authenticity, inclusion, growth, community, and exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Restore motion and flexibility after surgery (mastectomy, lumpectomy, reconstruction) by using gentle stretching and movement exercises to improve mobility and prevent stiffness in the shoulder, chest, and arm.
  • Reduce pain and scar tightness through manual techniques, soft-tissue work, and mobility exercises to lessen discomfort, loosen scar tissue, and improve comfort around surgical sites.
  • Provide strengthening programs to rebuild muscle and support daily activity and functional fitness, addressing weakness caused by cancer treatments.
  • Improve posture and function by addressing changes in posture from surgery, pain, and compensatory movement patterns to reduce long-term issues.
  • Assist with lymphedema prevention and management by teaching precautions and exercises to minimize swelling and help lymph drainage, especially after lymph node removal.
  • Support patients during treatment, including chemotherapy or radiation, by addressing fatigue, balance issues, and weakness to help them remain active and comfortable.
  • Provide personalized care at every stage of recovery, tailoring programs to each person’s goals and timeline, whether they are newly diagnosed, in active treatment, post-operative, or a long-term survivor.
