About The Position

Evaluates and conducts medically prescribed physical therapy treatment programs to treat movement dysfunction and pain resulting from injury, disease, disability, or other health related conditions. Acts as a resource in the department for clinical excellence, educational advancement, quality initiatives and growth and development of students and staff. Meets clinical specialist competencies as needed to maintain specialist designation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy, or related as required to obtain licensure in state of practice
  • Three years' experience or Graduation from Post Graduate Residency or Fellowship
  • Constant standing.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Frequent use of hearing to distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent use of vision for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more).
  • Frequent walking, reaching, gripping and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, sitting, squatting, twisting and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting/moving patients.
  • Occasional use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Occasional driving.
  • Rare crawling.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient-centered therapy services utilizing standard therapy techniques and skills in respective specialty field as appropriate for the condition of the patient.
  • Provides consultation for and/or management of patients requiring complex or advanced treatment.
  • Develops appropriate treatment plans based on patient evaluation.
  • Educates and counsels patient and family regarding treatment plans and provides information regarding appropriate support programs.
  • Plans and/or assists with patient discharge from physical therapy services.
  • Participates in physical therapy process improvement, including tasks related to patient treatment and clinical record documentation.
  • Implements, facilitates, and coordinates education programs for department staff.
  • Participates and often leads in-service meetings and other educational meetings.
  • Collaborates with therapy leadership to orient, instruct, and mentor therapy staff, students and trainees with most up-to-date clinical practice and evidence-based guidelines.
  • Participates in research projects and quality assurance activities as required.
  • Coordinates in-services or clinical excellence activities.
  • Communicates and advocates for physical therapy services with other health care professionals, patients, and public stakeholders.
  • Engages in community outreach activities to build collaborative partnerships for the promotion of physical therapy services.
  • Maintains department-level expectations in the area of productivity and financial stewardship.
  • Provides assistance with the implementation of strategic planning and program development processes.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
