About The Position

This is a full-time Physical Therapist Clinical Resident position within the Outpatient Rehabilitation department. The role involves evaluating patients, developing and implementing care plans, documenting patient progress, and educating patients and families. The resident will also direct and supervise support staff and students. The position requires a Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy, a Physical Therapist license, and BLS certification. No prior experience is required. The role involves operating specialized equipment and requires advanced knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology. Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, kneeling, twisting, bending, crouching, crawling, and reaching overhead. Lifting up to 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally is required, with the ability to laterally transfer patients weighing 100 pounds rarely. Personal Protective Equipment may be required. The work environment is fast-paced, primarily indoors, and occasionally outdoors.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited school or educational requirements commensurate with the date of graduation
  • Licensed Physical Therapist in the State upon which you work
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (obtained within 90 days unless department leader has determined is not required) by American Heart Association (AHA)
  • No experience required
  • Ability to operate expertly the ultrasound equipment with specialized Cardiology software and a desktop computer is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, physiology and pathology as related to cardiac circulation required
  • Sitting, standing, and walking are required throughout the day.
  • Job duties sometimes require climbing stairs, kneeling, twisting, bending; on occasion, crouching, crawling and reaching overhead.
  • Lifting of patients, equipment or supplies will be required up to 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Able to laterally transfer patients 100 pounds rarely.
  • Must be able to demonstrate any appropriate exercise and activities to patients/caregivers.
  • Personal Protective Equipment such as gloves, goggles, gowns, and masks are sometimes required due to possible exposure to hazardous chemicals or blood and body fluids.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates patients, selects and administers assessment techniques, synthesizes information to establish appropriate patient care plan to include necessary modalities, procedures, exercise programs, therapeutic groups and patient education as warranted by a holistic view of the patient's diagnosis, condition, age, and discharge needs
  • Gathers and interprets appropriate data from the medical record, physician reports, patient, and/or family as evidenced by documentation.
  • Documents evaluations, tests, progress notes, daily treatment notes, attendance records, patient/family education, outcomes, discharge notes, and charges as needed.
  • Communicates patient's evaluation and subsequent progress to physician, referral sources, and other clinical staff, coordinates patient's schedule and treatment programs, and discharge planning.
  • Provides and documents patient and family education in regard to deficits, progress toward goals, and therapeutic techniques, with individualized instruction for a home program including equipment use.
  • Directs and supervises activities of Physical Therapist Assistant, Physical Therapy Technician, students, and volunteers and assists with orienting new and rotating staff.
