About The Position

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) performs patient treatments as indicated by the treatment plan, documents treatments given with objective measurements, and works with adult patients with clinical competency. The role requires completing established competencies within the designated introductory period and performing other related duties as assigned. This is a full-time, day shift position.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant.
  • Active U.S. military service members or veterans with any military service, training or education verified and credited by an accredited PTA program is acceptable.
  • Possession of current Texas State license.
  • Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs selected tests and measurements in consultation with the therapist.
  • Interprets the evaluation for frequently referred diagnoses, asks questions when necessary, and seeks guidance for complex situations.
  • Reviews patient charts and progress prior to treatment and modifies treatment accordingly within the parameters of the treatment plan.
  • Instructs and involves the patient, family, and nursing staff in the patient’s progress and discharge plans.
  • Makes appropriate discharge recommendations to the therapist and attends appropriate meetings.
  • Uses appropriate modalities and procedures, demonstrating understanding of the therapist’s selection and asking for clarification as necessary.
  • Maintains documentation on all treatments.
  • Assures appropriate equipment performance prior to each use.
  • Provides in-service to staff.
  • Organizes schedule to reflect patient priorities and needs of other staff.
  • Delegates responsibility to supportive personnel appropriately.
  • Provides clinical education for PTA students after 1 year of experience.
  • Informs supervisor of incidents, accidents, equipment failure, or unusual physician or patient problems immediately.
  • Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintains a safe environment.
  • Addresses patient population-specific needs.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
