About The Position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Physical Security Engineer to join its data center design team. This role involves leading security designs for Amazon Data Centers (DC) throughout the Americas Region, ensuring facilities are safe, secure, resilient, and cost-effective. The engineer will impact global DC security standards and work within a creative design team to solve problems and challenge the status quo. As a subject matter expert, they will provide technical guidance, influence DC facility design, resolve large-scale implementation issues, and develop/communicate security design requirements to project partners. The role requires collaboration with other AWS Security Teams, AWS Management, and partners to apply physical security principles in real-world applications. A key aspect is reviewing and understanding new technologies and security measures for potential integration into existing security processes to enhance the overall security posture. A working knowledge of physical security principles, practical application, and Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) is essential.

Requirements

• 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
• 4+ years of commissioning experience
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
• Experience in commissioning

• Professional Engineer License
• Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents

Responsibilities

• Lead designs (construction drawings and specifications) for physical security elements (cameras, access control, intrusion detection, fences, gates, etc.) for DC projects.
• Collaborate with other security organizations within AWS to develop design standards, evaluate cost, risk and benefits of designs and facilitate design discussions.
• Communicate conceptual designs to internal stakeholders and external consultants.
• Participate in maintenance Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications for physical security elements.
• Create security design scope of work for design RFPs.
• Review and direct the work of physical security engineering design consultants.
• Manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously.
• Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%.
