About The Position

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a Physical Plant Supervisor I to oversee general facility maintenance and construction. This role involves planning, coordinating, and directing the work of inmate crews. The supervisor will also apply technical expertise by reading blueprints, preparing material takeoffs, developing cost estimates, and writing bid specifications. Requirements

  • Knowledge of budgetary issues including estimating costs and ordering of materials
  • Basic computer skills and software, e.g., Microsoft and Google suites
  • Knowledge of national and local building codes
  • Knowledge of structural issues regarding building and utility services, to include blueprints and safety practices and codes
  • Knowledge of all trades, i.e., electrical, electronic, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, general building, and preventative maintenance
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and techniques, including employee relations and work schedule
  • Skill in organization and scheduling of maintenance repairs
  • Skill in establishing a Preventative Maintenance Program for the facility
  • Skill in time management and organization
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships
  • Skill in written and verbal communication
  • Ability to lift/carry 50lbs
  • Ability to push/pull 50lbs
  • Ability to walk/run 0.25 miles
  • Ability to work in a prison environment
  • Ability to demonstrate use of common and specialized tools, equipment, and materials
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and schematics
  • Ability to demonstrate methods and practices of preventative maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction
  • Must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license if driving is an essential function
  • Must complete all required driver training and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks if driving is an essential function
  • Must maintain acceptable driving records if driving on state business
  • Must complete a Tuberculosis (TB) test during New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter
  • Must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify)

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of experience equivalent to a Building Maintenance Specialist
  • Two (2) years equivalent to a Building Maintenance Technician II
  • Any combination of training and experience

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, plans, and directs the activities of subordinates and inmate crews
  • Establishes and carries out preventative maintenance schedules on all equipment, mechanical equipment, and facility maintenance activities
  • Calculates cost estimates for maintenance/construction projects, while working within budget constraints
  • Maintains records on all equipment/tools, repairs, and preventative maintenance
  • Performs maintenance and construction duties on all facility buildings and/or equipment
  • Completes related documentation as required by policy and as directed by supervisor using basic office equipment/computer
  • Attends staff meetings and training as required
  • Drives on State business
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
