About The Position

Cameron University is seeking a Physical Plant Engineer to plan, direct, and supervise the work of engineering personnel. This role involves direct participation in engineering tasks related to routine and emergency maintenance and installation of building and physical plant equipment and systems. The engineer will establish standards and procedures, develop work schedules, inspect facilities, manage parts and supply requirements, develop and track project budgets, investigate service complaints, and advise on problem areas. The position also includes organizing training programs, resolving personnel issues, and performing varied engineering tasks such as system installation, repair of plumbing, electrical, heating, and cooling systems, and equipment maintenance.

Requirements

Graduate of standard high school or equivalent.
10 years of combined training and experience in the maintenance and operation of physical plant systems, including associated plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

Plans, directs, and supervises the work of engineering personnel.
Directly participates in engineering tasks associated with routine and emergency maintenance and/or installation of building and physical plant equipment and systems.
Establishes standards and procedures and develops work schedules of assigned staff to ensure proper services.
Inspects the physical condition and appearance of engineering facilities and equipment.
Manages parts and supply requirements and cost information, submitting requests for needed items.
Keeps records of use, reviews job orders and project worksheets to determine equipment, parts, and supply requirements and cost information.
Develops project budgets and tracks project costs to ensure adherence to budget.
Participates with management in developing the fiscal year annual budget.
Investigates complaints regarding service and takes corrective action.
Advises supervisor of problem areas and recommends solutions.
Organizes and directs training programs and resolves personnel problems.
Screens applicants, directs training programs for new employees, and recommends hires, dismissals, transfers, and promotions.
Records data concerning assignments and personnel actions and keeps time records.
Ensures the working condition and maintenance of engineering test equipment and tools.
Performs varied engineering tasks including installation of new and modified systems, repair of plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling systems, and operation and preventive maintenance of equipment supporting the physical plant.
Performs other duties as assigned.
