About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking a Physical/Occupational Therapist, Ergonomist to provide physical/occupational support services for occupational injuries and apply moderately complex ergonomic concepts for office, home office, and non-office environments. This position is within the Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) Directorate and may offer a hybrid schedule, allowing for remote work one or more days per week after a probationary period. The specifics of the hybrid schedule will depend on team and organizational needs.

Requirements

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in physical/occupational therapy.
  • Current license as a physical/occupational therapist in the State of California.
  • Minimum of 5 years licensed as a physical or occupational therapist.
  • Minimum of 2 years outpatient orthopedics experience in the treatment and management for acute and cumulative trauma disorders; and industrial post -op rehabilitation.
  • Experience with early intervention and occupational activity analysis relating to office, home office, and non-office tasks.
  • Experience with performing office, home office, and non-office ergonomic assessments.
  • Experience with developing training, procedures, or reports for a wider audience and speaking to small and large groups effectively.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively collaborate in a team environment, present, and communicate technical information to all levels of personnel.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in physical or occupational therapy.
  • Experience with using robotic wearables such as Ottobock shoulder exoskeleton and Apex2 Exosuit.
  • Additional certifications such as Certified Hand Therapist (CHT).
  • Technical excellence in ergonomics as demonstrated by credentials such as Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist, Associate Ergonomics Professional (AEP®), or Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) from the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics (BCPE), or equivalent certification from a professional certifying organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide physical rehabilitation services based on licensure to employees with musculoskeletal injuries; injuries typically treated include shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist, and hand.
  • Work independently and provide physical/occupational services to employees with work-related injuries.
  • Independently perform moderate-complex ergonomic assessments for office, home office, and non-office environments.
  • Provide ergonomic and self-care support services for employees who have early onset of discomfort and enrolled in the Early Intervention Program.
  • Perform ergonomic risk assessments to support disability case management and injury causal analysis efforts.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case management meetings involving ergonomic case management issues.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of presentations, trainings, educational handouts within ergonomics program and institutionally.
  • Collaborate with ES&H professionals, various programmatic stakeholders, and Ergonomics Program Manager, and other physical/occupational therapists to identify ergonomic risk factors contributing to work related injuries.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
