About The Position

The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Physical Health & Wellness (PH&W) Specialist develops and executes multiweek programs and events to educate, coach, and empower wounded service members in pursuit of achievement of their physical health and wellness goals. This role involves identifying and recruiting warriors for programs, planning and executing coaching program kick-off events, creating individualized coaching plans, managing warrior participation through regular coaching sessions, and providing guidance to encourage behavior change. The Specialist also develops and facilitates virtual programming, collaborates with teammates on content development, establishes community relationships, conducts public speaking, manages budgets, and maintains data integrity in various systems. The role requires managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, participating in workgroups, assisting with onboarding, and attending required training.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience working in the fitness industry, allied health profession, health management, wellness coaching, strength and conditioning, or personal/athletic training.
  • Two years of experience with longitudinal plan design, teaching, guiding, and coaching in the categories of fitness, nutrition, wellness, and/or athletics.
  • Highly motivated, passionate, and creative team player with demonstrated commitment to the organization.
  • High energy level.
  • Self-starter; willing to take initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage program participants, deliver program content, and create individualized coaching plans that provide a basis for long-term healthy behavior change.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in inclusive and holistic programming for nutrition, mobility, sleep, wellness, fitness, and other health focused topics.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high level service to warriors and their family members in the delivery of programs and events.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional relationships and work collaboratively with teammates and program stakeholders, in-person and through remote formats using video conferencing.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a strong attention to detail and an ability to prioritize and effectively handle multiple priorities with tight deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience working with and providing support to wounded service members dealing with health issues and invisible injuries.
  • One year of event planning experience.
  • One year of experience with customer relationship management and event management systems, e.g., Salesforce, CVENT.
  • Master’s degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, nutrition, human performance, or a related health science field.
  • Personal Training certification (ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA), Strength and Conditioning certification (CSCS), or other related fitness certification.
  • Wellness coaching certification.
  • ASIST Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, screen, and recruit warriors for participation in quarterly virtual and in person Physical Health & Wellness events and coaching programs.
  • Plan agenda and execute multiday PH&W coaching program kick off events, providing fitness, nutrition, mobility, sleep, and health-focused education to warriors with limited to no supervision from manager.
  • Create individualized coaching programs to help warriors achieve their physical health and wellness goals.
  • Manage warrior participation throughout 90-day coaching program, providing encouragement, support, and connection to resources through regular coaching sessions delivered by telephone or Teams.
  • Provide instruction, guidance, and coaching using motivational interviewing skills to encourage behavior change and support the progress of warrior’s health focused SMART goals.
  • Develop and execute in person events, virtual education, competitions, and wellness challenges for warriors and their families.
  • Develop and facilitate virtual programming content via Teams, Facebook Live, and other technology-based platforms.
  • Collaborate with physical health and wellness teammates to develop new, innovative content and curriculum.
  • Identify and recommend new programming opportunities aimed at increasing overall impact.
  • Learn and implement various modalities to execute during events and follow up, including Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Establish and maintain community relationships to build an ecosystem of PH&W support for warriors.
  • Collaborate with multiple WWP departments and other key stakeholders to deliver programming and services to warriors and their families.
  • Conduct public speaking activities to raise awareness of PH&W programming and discuss the importance of starting and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
  • Maintain budgets for PH&W programming within assigned region in support of leadership.
  • Manage information within various systems, ensuring accuracy while maintaining data integrity/security, e.g. Salesforce.
  • Utilize validated metrics to meet strategic outcomes and key performance indicators.
  • Manage multiple tasks, assignments, and functions, being comfortable in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
  • Participate in workgroups for special projects and programming initiatives as assigned.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new teammates as needed.
  • Attend and actively participate in required training and/or meetings, including but not limited to New Teammate Orientation, WWP Cares, ASIST Suicide Prevention training, Leadership training, culture/team based training, or departmental huddles.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
