About The Position

The Cambridge Public School District's Health, Physical Education, and Wellness Department, in collaboration with Amigos School, is seeking a Physical Education teacher. Amigos School is a PK-8 institution with a strong tradition of bilingual education in English and Spanish, located in the Cambridgeport neighborhood. It serves a diverse student population and aims to foster linguistic and cultural connections through school-community partnerships. The two-way immersion program is designed to develop high academic achievement, bilingualism, and cultural competencies, preparing students for the global economy. The Health, Physical Education, and Wellness Department is committed to creating supportive learning environments that promote student well-being, physical activity, and health advocacy. The department emphasizes anti-racism, social justice, and racial equity, striving for a culturally responsive curriculum that addresses historical marginalization and disparities. Upon program completion, students are expected to develop motor skills, self-efficacy, advocacy, and empowerment for lifelong health and wellness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience and/or education in physical education.
  • Massachusetts Certification in PreK-8 Physical Education.
  • Awareness of the developmental needs of elementary and adolescent learners and the strategies to meet those needs through the curriculum.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Previous and successful experience working in a multicultural environment and demonstrated implementation of culturally responsive practices that includes students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, alongside the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff and student body.
  • A strong work ethic, alongside a commitment to doing whatever it takes for students to excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • High levels or native language proficiency in Spanish, including listening, speaking, reading, grammar, and writing.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and implementing Physical Education instruction in accordance with the Massachusetts Health Curriculum Framework and the SHAPE America Physical Education Standards.
  • Teaching the Cambridge Public Schools Physical Education curriculum with skill and fidelity.
  • Displaying a collegial spirit that supports and enhances continual professional growth consistent with the educational goals and philosophies of the Cambridge Public Schools.
  • Being fully committed to continuous learning, improvement, reflection, and working together to ensure that all students achieve at high levels.
