About The Position

The K-6 Physical Education Teacher supports a joyful, structured, and purposeful classroom and gym culture where all students, regardless of ability, feel a sense of belonging and are empowered to succeed. The teacher delivers engaging and standards-aligned instruction in physical education, promoting physical fitness, teamwork, motor skill development, and healthy lifestyles. The PE Teacher plays a key role in implementing the school's vision for equity and excellence, ensuring all students achieve at high levels and embody the school's core values of practice, service, and purpose. The Physical Education Teacher reports to the Assistant Principal of Instruction and collaborates with the school team to create a positive and adaptive learning environment. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Health, Kinesiology, or a related field required
  • At least one year of teaching experience preferred, with demonstrated success in student engagement and physical instruction.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional strategies and best practices in physical education.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Valid Pennsylvania teaching certification in Health and Physical Education (or eligibility for certification) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach daily physical education lessons aligned with state standards and the school's curriculum.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to promote physical activity, coordination, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
  • Foster students' enjoyment of movement, exercise, and lifelong fitness through age-appropriate activities.
  • Assess and monitor student progress in physical fitness, motor skills, and collaborative behaviors.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the physical and developmental needs of all learners, including students with disabilities or requiring additional challenges.
  • Celebrate student growth and promote perseverance, resilience, and healthy habits.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and structured environment in physical education settings that reflect the school's core values.
  • Use proactive and effective classroom management strategies to ensure respectful and engaged participation.
  • Model a growth mindset and promote self-confidence, teamwork, and mutual respect.
  • Work closely with colleagues, families, and support staff to support the physical and emotional well-being of every student.
  • Participate in professional development, team meetings, and school events to strengthen school culture.
  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress, health, and physical development.
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, and transitions as needed.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives, events, and service-learning projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the school's mission.
