About The Position

Amherst Regional Middle School is seeking a qualified Physical Education Teacher for grades 7 and 8 for the 2026–2027 school year. The position will primarily provide physical education instruction and will include teaching one section of health, comprising no more than 0.20 FTE of the assignment. The successful candidate will create an inclusive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that promotes physical literacy, personal wellness, teamwork, and lifelong healthy habits.

Requirements

  • Valid Massachusetts educator license in Physical Education appropriate for grades 7 and 8.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate physical education and wellness practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching physical education at the middle school level.
  • Experience teaching health or wellness-related content.
  • Experience adapting instruction for students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.
  • Current CPR, first aid, and automated external defibrillator certification.
  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency.
  • Demonstrated multicultural competency and experience working with students and families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver standards-aligned physical education instruction for students in grades 7 and 8.
  • Teach one section of health.
  • Develop lessons that promote physical fitness, motor skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy decision-making.
  • Provide differentiated instruction that meets the needs of students with varying abilities, interests, backgrounds, and learning needs.
  • Adapt activities, equipment, and instructional strategies to ensure equitable student access and participation.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Use positive behavior supports and effective classroom-management practices.
  • Assess student learning and provide timely, meaningful feedback.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance, assessment, and progress records.
  • Implement accommodations, modifications, and services identified in students’ Individualized Education Programs and Section 504 plans.
  • Collaborate with special educators, paraeducators, related service providers, school counselors, nurses, and other staff members.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Monitor the safe and appropriate use of physical education facilities, supplies, and equipment.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, family conferences, and other school-based activities.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position, as assigned.
