About The Position

The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for delivering a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate physical education program that promotes physical fitness, skill development, teamwork, and lifelong wellness habits. This role integrates Biblical principles into instruction while fostering a safe, structured, and engaging environment where students develop discipline, character, and respect for others. The Physical Education Teacher contributes to the overall mission of Lenawee Christian School by supporting the spiritual, physical, and social growth of each student. In addition, this role partners with The Christian Family Centre to enhance student access to facilities, programming, and wellness opportunities, creating a unified approach to physical development and community engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field required.
  • Valid state teaching certification required.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Profess and demonstrate a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  • Exhibit a consistent Christian testimony and adherence to biblical principles in personal and professional life.
  • Demonstrate spiritual maturity, humility, and a strong commitment to excellence and servant leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior teaching or instructional experience preferred.
  • Experience working with children in a school or athletic setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging physical education instruction aligned with school curriculum and state standards.
  • Develop lesson plans that promote physical fitness, motor skill development, and healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs and abilities of all students.
  • Assess student performance and provide feedback on skill development and participation.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and well-managed learning environment.
  • Establish and enforce expectations for student behavior, safety, and participation.
  • Ensure proper use and care of equipment and facilities.
  • Monitor student safety during all physical activities and respond appropriately to injuries or incidents.
  • Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect among students.
  • Encourage student participation, confidence, and personal growth.
  • Support the development of discipline, perseverance, and goal-setting.
  • Evaluate student progress and maintain accurate records of performance and participation.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and expectations.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school communication processes.
  • Partner with Centre leadership and staff to coordinate use of facilities for physical education programming.
  • Integrate Centre resources (fitness spaces, equipment, programs) to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Support alignment between school physical education curriculum and Centre wellness initiatives.
  • Assist in developing student access to fitness, recreation, and wellness opportunities beyond the classroom.
  • Collaborate on special events, programs, or initiatives that promote physical health, community engagement, and ministry impact.
  • Maintain effective communication to ensure safe, organized, and efficient shared facility use.
  • Support school-wide events, activities, and athletic programs as assigned.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to support student development and school initiatives.
  • Assist with supervision duties as assigned.
  • Maintain professional standards aligned with ACSI and state accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in professional development and ongoing training.
  • Adhere to all school policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Integrate Biblical principles into instruction and student interactions.
  • Model Christ-centered character, leadership, and servant-heartedness.
  • Support the spiritual development of students through encouragement and example.
