About The Position

The district is seeking coverage for this long-term substitute assignment from September 8, 2026, through October 30, 2026. Long-term substitutes are compensated at a daily rate of $125.00 for the first 20 workdays of an assignment. Beginning on the 21st workday, compensation increases to the applicable daily rate based on the substitute's educational qualifications: $346.55 per day for those with a Bachelor's degree or $372.42 per day for those with a Master's degree. This rate remains in effect for the duration of the assignment. The Physical Education Teacher reports directly to the Principal of the School and is expected to work closely with all district personnel to provide high quality instruction to our diverse student population. S/he will provide a safe, equitable, culturally responsive learning environment with high expectations for all students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university required
  • Current Massachusetts's DESE Certification in Physical Education
  • At least 3 years of experience teaching elementary PE

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience working with students in Special Education programs a plus

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a desire to meaningfully integrate technology into the classroom
  • Employs a variety of teaching methods to engage different learning styles and ability levels in the classroom
  • Prepares motivating and stimulating lessons that reflect knowledge of the curriculum, child development, and student abilities
  • Encourages an inclusive classroom that accepts the different perspectives and backgrounds of the students and elicits a greater understanding of the world around them with a global perspective
  • Utilizes a variety of assessments and uses data in the classroom to develop lessons and instructional activities as needed
  • Updates curriculum and materials as needed
  • Creates a learning environment that is motivating and age appropriate, setting clear expectations for classwork and homework while maintaining current books and instructional resources that support the classroom learning
  • Seeks to actively know students’ strengths and weaknesses and responds promptly and with care to parent concerns
  • Communicates effectively with parents, colleagues, and administrators
  • Maintains an accurate and organized system for monitoring student grades and records
  • Meets reporting deadlines and requirements and follows school-wide procedures for reporting grades
  • Prepares well-thought-out and thorough conference reports and written documentation on student progress
  • Maintains daily and weekly plans
  • Demonstrates strong classroom management skills
