About The Position

L3Harris – Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Physical/Dimensional Metrology Technician to work at the Canoga Park Facility in California which produces large and small propulsion components and systems for NASA, Military, and Commercial contracts. The Metrology Technician is responsible for calibrations, measuring, adjusting and certifying optical, and physical dimensional company standards, working instruments and hand tools. Metrology responsibilities are supported by standard work and procedures. The Metrology team is accountable to a Quality Manager.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years of calibration experience or a combination of calibration experience and training which can be offset with formal metrology training.
  • Prior calibration experience with, but not limited to: Micrometers, Calipers, Torque Wrenches, Height Gauges, Pin & Ring Gauges, Humidity and Environmental Control Equipment, Fluid Gauges and related equipment, Temperature and Pressure Gauges.
  • ASQ certified calibration technician (CCT) or equivalent industry certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree from a junior college or technical school and a minimum of 5 years of prior calibration experience preferred.
  • Previous exposure to concepts of measurement uncertainty and sources of uncertainty.
  • Knowledge of Metrology Lab Quality Management system ISO 17025.
  • Experience working in an ISO 17025 accredited lab.
  • Experience working in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in developing and validating calibration methods.
  • Proficiency with GAGEtrak or equivalent industry standard calibration software/database.
  • Proficiency in basic statistical concepts such as mean, median, and standard deviation.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Be a self-motivator, self-starter, work as a team player, and follow written procedures.
  • Possess good written and oral communication skills.
  • Great interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work to written and verbal instructions, read and interpret information from planning documents, drawings, test procedures, blueprints, sketches, specifications, engineering orders and test manuals to plan the methods and sequence of operations required to calibrate precision mechanical instruments and tools.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, and adjust precision optical, electro-mechanical, hydro-mechanical or pneumatic measuring tools, transfer and reference standards, hand tools and devices.
  • Evaluate new or modified optical, physical and mechanical dimensional standards and related equipment used for calibration or measurement purposes.
  • Maintain and analyze calibration data. Identify error sources and correct malfunctions associated with specific calibration and measurement problems.
  • Coordinate and resolve problems associated with standards and measuring equipment with customers and responsible personnel.
  • Perform technical writing tasks.
  • Maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Meet standards by following required production and quality requirements.
