About The Position

The Physical AI Field Applications Engineer is a sales-focused, customer-facing technical role embedded within Teradyne’s Universal Robots (UR) and Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) businesses. You will serve as the primary technical resource for the Bay Area sales team, partnering directly with Account Managers to win and expand strategic accounts by demonstrating deep expertise in Physical AI, robotics software stacks, and AI-powered automation. This is not a research or product development role. Success is defined by your ability to drive customer adoption, accelerate sales cycles, and ensure customers and reseller partners successfully deploy UR/MiR platforms. You will be the trusted technical advisor who bridges the gap between complex AI and robotics technology and real-world customer value.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred for candidates with deeper AI/ML robotics research experience.
  • 3+ years in a customer-facing technical role such as Field Applications, Solutions, Pre-Sales, or Technical Account Management in robotics, automation, or AI.
  • Ability to partner with sales teams to drive revenue through technical expertise.
  • Hands-on experience with ROS/ROS2 for robot application development and integration.
  • Experience designing or integrating perception, manipulation, or mobile robot systems using sensors and AI inference pipelines.
  • Proficiency in Python; C++ familiarity is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel within the Bay Area and occasionally nationally.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with Universal Robots (UR) cobots or Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR).
  • Familiarity with NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Isaac Lab, or similar sim-to-real tools.
  • Experience with VLA models, learning from demonstration, or teleoperation-based data collection.
  • Knowledge of robot training data pipelines, including curation, labeling, and quality management.
  • Exposure to AI inference frameworks such as ONNX, TensorRT, or PyTorch on edge hardware.
  • Familiarity with cloud or edge robotics infrastructure such as AWS RoboMaker or Azure IoT/Digital Twins.
  • Experience supporting enterprise or hyperscaler robotics or automation deployments.
  • Track record of creating technical content such as application notes, white papers, or demo repositories.
  • Exposure to business metrics, Salesforce, and commercial deal processes.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Account Managers to qualify opportunities and drive sales through technical expertise.
  • Lead customer discovery and translate needs into UR/MiR solutions.
  • Deliver demos, technical presentations, and proof-of-concept experiences.
  • Build ROI analyses, proposals, and solution recommendations.

  • Lead workshops, architecture reviews, and hands-on sessions.
  • Support proof-of-concept and pilot deployments at key customer sites.
  • Help design systems using UR/MiR hardware, sensors, perception, and AI.
  • Troubleshoot robotic performance issues during pre- and post-sale engagements.
  • Create reference architectures and best-practice guides for Physical AI adoption.
  • Support robot data collection, including teleoperation and demonstration capture.
  • Guide dataset and annotation requirements for model training.
  • Support sim-to-real workflows with NVIDIA Isaac Sim/Isaac Lab or similar tools.
  • Contribute to perception, control, and AI inference design on UR/MiR platforms.
  • Support ROS/ROS2 development for automation applications.
