About The Position

The Multnomah County Health Department's Public Health Division is seeking a PHP Immunization & Community Health Intern. This role is crucial for the Prevention and Health Promotion (PHP) unit, which focuses on chronic disease prevention, tobacco control, adolescent health, and reducing health disparities. The intern will support state immunization reporting requirements, community outreach, data management, and family education. The work involves coordinating mobile immunization clinics, developing educational materials, educating the community on vaccine importance, managing communications, and supporting school immunization programs. The intern will also assist with data entry, registry alignment, literature reviews on vaccine hesitancy, and refining planning documents for program sustainability. This is a hybrid role with one mandatory in-person day per week, with flexibility for additional on-site work. Requirements

Enrollment in an accredited institution leading to a post-graduate degree or equivalent program.
One (1) year of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Nice To Haves

Master-level student in Public Health, Health Promotion, Community Health, Epidemiology, or other Health Professionals.
Lived experience or volunteer work in public health, health literacy, communications, community organizing, or addressing systemic inequities.
Demonstrated accuracy in data entry, record management, and the use of tools like Microsoft Office or Google Workspace to track and report data.
Ability to translate technical public health information into clear, empathetic, and accessible communication for families and community members.
Strong initiative, a commitment to working independently, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
Experience working effectively with Multnomah County's high-need, or culturally diverse communities.
Experience and/or interest assisting with project coordination, event planning (such as vaccine fairs or mobile clinics), or supporting long-term program sustainability.
Experience with immunization registries (such as Oregon ALERT IIS), database management, or electronic health records (EHR).

Responsibilities

Coordinate low-barrier mobile immunization clinics in partnership with community organizations to serve high-need populations.
Develop and distribute culturally tailored educational materials.
Educate the community on the importance of vaccines and manage essential communications to families regarding health, safety, and immunization requirements.
Collaborate with staff and community members to develop and refine accessible resources that clarify immunization mandates and school exclusion regulations.
Organize vaccine fairs, share resources, and answer public inquiries.
Implement immunization programs to help families navigate exclusion laws, keeping students protected and in school.
Identify and share process improvements as the role evolves.
Support the Vaccine Access Program (VAP) by monitoring temperature logs, updating tracking tools, and performing data entry/registry alignment (e.g., Oregon ALERT IIS).
Ensure accurate data entry and record management to support public health decision-making and identify coverage gaps.
Conduct literature reviews on vaccine hesitancy to propose policy and systems changes.
Support long-term sustainability by refining SBEAR (Situation, Background, Equity, Assessment, Recommendation) planning documents.
Use data-driven insights to modernize workflows and reach under-vaccinated populations.
Assist with compiling reporting data (e.g., PE 43 workplan, ALERT Reporting).
