About The Position

This recruitment will be used to fill five part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Photographer positions for Orange Media Network at Oregon State University (OSU). The Photographer is responsible for pitching, researching and photographing stories for The Daily Barometer, Beavers Digest, or DAMchic, including print and online, as required by the editor-in-chief of the publications or the OMN Photo Chief. The Undergraduate Student Support Services Worker performs a variety of work related to the support and enhancement of the quality of student life at the university.

Requirements

  • Is knowledgeable in photo news gathering and fact-checking strategies
  • Able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and academic breaks
  • Able to meet deadlines
  • Is knowledgeable and experienced in building and maintaining relationships with sources, stakeholders, partners, collaborators and the community
  • Academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard (High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program; Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term; Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term; Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term; Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term)

Responsibilities

  • Pitches, accepts and delivers photos that either stand alone or accompany content for OMN
  • Works with OMN writers to accurately and fully reflect stories of news value to the OSU community
  • Provides fair and accurate coverage that represents the story and the people involved
  • Suggests story, photo and/or video coverage to enhance story presentation online
  • Write accurate captions in AP style
  • Attends all staff and team meetings as required by editor(s)-in-chief
