About The Position

Barks & Rec is seeking a freelance photographer to capture diverse events, including in dark environments. The preferred work is realistic or semi-vivid, emphasizing genuine moments and emotions rather than artificial compositions that substantially alter the scene. The photographer will cover the main event space and operate the scheduled photo booth. Final photographs are due within two weeks after the event and must be delivered in high-resolution 4K to 8K quality as PNG or TIF files, suitable for high-quality printing. The photographer works as an independent contractor, not as an employee of Barks & Rec or its vendors and partners. The contractor is responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and legal compliance. The role does not include employee benefits, workers’ compensation, or other employment-related provisions. Barks & Rec receives a commercial, non-transferable license to use and modify the photographs for marketing, online platforms, print media, and other promotional communications. It may not sell, lease, or transfer those rights to a third party without the photographer’s prior written consent. The photographer retains personal and artistic rights and may use the images for a professional portfolio, self-promotion, competitions, education, and gallery showings, subject to reasonable attendee privacy considerations and restrictions against use that negatively affects Barks & Rec or its associated parties. For the event for which they are hired, the photographer receives a free non-transferable ticket for themselves and one free ticket for a friend or family member.

Requirements

Prior event photography experience is desirable; enthusiastic amateurs with a proven eye for compelling photography are also welcome.
Proficiency with professional photography equipment, including DSLR or mirrorless cameras.
Adeptness with photo-editing software.
Understanding of composition, lighting, and color.
Reliability in adhering to scheduled events and professionalism when working with organizers and participants.
Strong communication skills.
A portfolio demonstrating photography skills, with a variety of event or personal-project shots that show versatility and style.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with different photography styles and trends.
Prior experience in event photography.

Responsibilities

Photograph the main event space, capturing its energy and key moments as they unfold.
Manage the scheduled photo booth and provide attendees with a seamless, engaging experience.
