About The Position

Postmedia is seeking a Photo Journalist/Visual Journalist to work in the joint Ottawa Citizen/Ottawa Sun newsroom. The successful candidate will be responsible for shooting stills and video, as well as recording and editing audio for a variety of stories including sports, features, and daily news. This role requires excellent news judgment, an understanding of current issues, and a proven ability to develop enterprise features. Familiarity with emerging digital trends, video shooting, and leveraging social media and digital platforms to reach audiences is essential. The candidate must be comfortable filing for multiple platforms under tight deadlines and be eager to explore new storytelling methods and reader engagement techniques.

Requirements

Hold a post-secondary diploma/degree in journalism
Minimum five years of visual journalism experience in a major media company
Understanding of PhotoMechanic, Photoshop, and FinalCut video editing software
Fluency in digital platforms, multimedia journalism, and social media
Ability to work quickly and independently
Ability to meet multiple deadlines
Ability to make efficient decisions
Ability to work constructively as part of a newsroom team
Ability to work flexible hours
Own a reliable vehicle
Availability for evenings and weekends
Legally eligible to work in Canada

Responsibilities

Shoot stills and video for web
Record and edit audio
Initiate and develop ideas for enterprise content
File audio and video clips for digital platforms
Work with digital teams to create interactive graphics and other multimedia elements
File for multiple platforms on tight deadlines
