About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Phlebotomy Unit Clerk to join their team in New York, NY. This role involves working directly with medical providers in a fast-paced hospital environment to coordinate patient testing needs. The position requires the ability to navigate a hospital setting, process complex test orders, perform blood collections, prepare specimens, and handle customer service issues. The clerk will also manage patient flow, maintain inventory, promote teamwork, perform data entry, obtain demographic and billing information, process payments, and report any issues to supervisors. Administrative and clerical duties are also part of the role, with travel to additional sites as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • AAMA or CMA accreditation
  • 2+ years of experience as a phlebotomist performing venipunctures

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years or more of phlebotomy experience
  • 2 years or more experience working in hospital
  • 1 year of leadership experience- formal or informal
  • Bilingual – English and Spanish
  • In depth knowledge of phlebotomy duties, responsibilities and techniques
  • Experienced with pediatric draws & neonatal draws
  • Familiarity with ICD-9 coding
  • Proven track record in providing exceptional customer service
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Comfortably working under minimal supervision
  • Reliable transportation and clean driving record if applicable
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test.
  • Able to be flexible with scheduled hours to provide shift coverage as needed

Responsibilities

  • Working directly with medical providers to coordinate patient testing needs within a fast-paced, medical environment.
  • Navigate around a hospital setting to attend client needs to various suites.
  • Decipher, collect, and process complex test orders pertinent to hospital outreach settings.
  • Perform blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques for all age groups.
  • Collect specimens for drug screens, paternity tests, alcohol tests etc.
  • Prepare all collected specimens for testing and analysis.
  • Address any customer service related issues in a prompt and respectful manner.
  • Manage and monitor patient flow, wait times, inventory levels and information logs.
  • Promote team work, cohesiveness and effective communication among coworkers.
  • Perform data entry of patient information in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Work with patients and providers to obtain pertinent demographic and billing information.
  • Process and collect payments when required.
  • Observe and report any performance, compliance or staffing related issues to supervisors.
  • Administrative and clerical duties as necessary.
  • Travel to additional sites when needed.
