About The Position

This full-time Phlebotomy Technician II position is located at the Winston Campus of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center within the Lab: Outreach Services department. The role involves ensuring accurate and timely collection of blood specimens, maintaining patient identification, and delivering samples to appropriate lab sections. The technician will also perform clerical functions, specimen processing, and potentially waived testing, while adhering to safety and identification procedures. This position requires serving as a resource to staff, improving work skills, and contributing to the efficient operation of the department. The role also emphasizes protecting oneself and others from the spread of diseases and maintaining a professional image.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Nice To Haves

• One year of phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to the general Medical Center standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
• Assures accurate and timely collection of blood specimens, according to departmental practices.
• Assures accurate identification and delivery of patient samples to appropriate lab sections.
• Follows proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens under any circumstance or environment.
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of phlebotomy by serving as a willing resource to staff and applying knowledge in daily routines.
• Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education.
• Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
• Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approval policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.
• Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.
• Provides age-appropriate specimen collection in accordance with age specific guidelines for school age, adolescents, early adults, middle adults and/or late adults.
• Maintains inventory and supplies related to job activities and monitors expiration dates.
• Performs clerical functions including entry of lab orders into the LIS, printing and delivery of reports, filing reports, preparing requisitions, and obtaining information or entering information into the laboratory or hospital computer system.
• Performs specimen processing in accordance to laboratory policies.
• May perform waived testing.
• May be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
