About The Position

This full-time position, working 40 hours per week primarily on the 1st shift with a flexible schedule, rotating weekends, and no holidays, is eligible for a $6,000 sign-on bonus for qualified candidates. The role is based at the Winston Campus and involves leading a shift or area/program, acting as a resource for the team, and assisting leadership with teammate development. Key responsibilities include creating staff schedules, monitoring performance, training team members, identifying quality improvement opportunities, and collaborating with pharmacists and other healthcare providers. The position requires knowledge of automation and technology, troubleshooting issues, maintaining inventory, processing drug recalls, and ensuring proper documentation. The lead will also review billing processes, assist with training materials, and act as a role model for safe and efficient pharmacy practices. Expertise in medication handling, regulatory compliance, automation troubleshooting, and billing/insurance processes is expected, along with familiarity with age-specific care requirements.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
For technicians in NC with validating technician responsibilities- an associate’s degree in pharmacy technology is required.
Registration/Licensure with state board of pharmacy per state of employment requirements.
Certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) or National Health Career Association (ExCPT).
Typically requires 3 years of experience in health care, insurance industry, pharmacy, or medical background.
Highly effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
Exceptional customer service, problem resolution and process development skills.
Demonstrated leadership skills such as delegation, team building, managing multiple priorities, problem solving, and decision making.
Ability to understand and become knowledgeable of pharmacy standards, policies, procedures, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, take initiative, and to work independently with minimal supervision.
Must be detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously.
Computer skills with Microsoft Office, email, internet access, electronic pharmacy management systems, and pharmacy ordering and inventory systems.

Nice To Haves

Successful completion of a formal technician training program preferred.
One-year previous pharmacy experience preferred.
Associate degree in a healthcare or business-related field preferred.
Additional relevant PTCB Certificates or advanced certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Leads the shift or area/program by assigning, monitoring, and reviewing the progress and accuracy of technician work.
Acts as a resource for the team, providing day-to-day direction and guidance on complex issues, resolving conflicts when necessary and fostering a positive work environment.
Assists leadership with teammate interviewing, selection, development, and engagement.
Creates staff schedules and monitors performance, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures and compliance with regulatory standards.
Trains, orients, and educates team members, ensuring competency and completion of required training program.
Identifies quality improvement opportunities and collaborates with leadership to design and implement initiatives to enhance efficiency, safety and engagement.
Participates in performance improvement activities and ensures proper documentation and compliance with legal, regulatory, and accrediting bodies.
Knowledgeable with use of automation and technology, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Collaborates with pharmacists and other healthcare providers in coordinating medication preparation, dispensing, and related processes.
Monitors and maintains inventory levels, processes drug recalls and ensures appropriate handling of controlled substances.
Assists with all duties required of Technician I, II, III when appropriately needed.
Ensures proper documentation for department tasks, meeting legal and regulatory standards.
Reviews billing processes, adjusts patient bills as necessary, and processes charges and credits for medications where appropriate.
Assists in the preparation and review of pharmacy training materials and programs.
Acts as a role model for safe, effective and efficient care, demonstrating the skills and knowledge necessary for pharmacy technicians.
Demonstrates expertise in pharmacy practices, including medication handling, regulatory compliance, and automation troubleshooting.
Acts as a liaison between the technician team and department leadership.
Knowledgeable in billing and insurance processes, including prior authorizations and third-party claims where appropriate.
Familiarity with age-specific care requirements and ability to assess and meet the needs of diverse patient populations.
