About The Position

This position is for a Phlebotomy Technician II at High Point Medical Center, working PRN (as needed) to cover FTE PTO, call outs, and high census periods. The role involves accurate and timely collection of blood specimens, patient identification, and delivery of samples to appropriate lab sections, all while adhering to safety and identification procedures. The technician is expected to improve skills through self-study and continuing education, contribute to efficient department operation, and protect self and coworkers by following policies to prevent disease spread. Professionalism and age-appropriate specimen collection are also key. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function.
  • Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.
  • Keyboarding and typing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good listening skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills to interface effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, and other healthcare employees.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assures accurate and timely collection of blood specimens, according to departmental practices.
  • Assures accurate identification and delivery of patient samples to appropriate lab sections.
  • Follows proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens under any circumstance or environment.
  • Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education.
  • Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
  • Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approval policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.
  • Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.
  • Provides age-appropriate specimen collection in accordance with age specific guidelines for school age, adolescents, early adults, middle adults and/or late adults.
  • Adheres to the general Medical Center standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
