Phlebotomy Technician - Clinical Lab
About The Position
Phlebotomy Technicians are integral members of the Medical Laboratory Team whose primary function is the collection of blood samples from patients. Many patients, from children and teens to adults, often find needles and the idea of having their blood drawn frightening. Using your experience and skills, you can help put the patient at ease while obtaining all the required specimens. The phlebotomy team works closely with providers to ensure that our patients receive the best care possible and the most reliable specimen collection and results we can provide. A caregiver in this position works nights from 5:00PM – 5:30AM or 6:00PM – 6:30AM, with on-call and weekend requirements.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Technical proficiency with standard procedures, techniques and common practices
Nice To Haves
- Formal Phlebotomy Certification
Responsibilities
- Perform blood collection procedures, follow venipuncture procedures and maintain appropriate log sheets.
- Verify order requests and identify information prior to drawing blood or collecting the specimen/kit.
- Label all specimens collected and deliver them to the appropriate processing area.
- Perform specimen processing and send out tasks, including accessioning, centrifugation and packaging.
- Pick up and deliver blood, other sample types and lab supplies.
