About The Position

Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Alabama, is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician I, also referred to as a Phlebotomy Tech, for its Clinical Lab/Emergency Department. This full-time position works evenings from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and requires availability every other weekend and holiday. The Phlebotomy Technician I draws blood and handles specimens, ensuring proper patient identification, specimen labeling, and transport to the laboratory. The role also involves maintaining equipment, following quality and safety protocols, recording patient data, and collaborating with other departments to support effective patient care.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
BLS certification obtained within 45 days of hire and maintained as current.

Two years of clinical laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

Prepare patients for blood draws, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort and safety.
Collect blood using venipuncture, capillary puncture, or other techniques, and ensure correct identification and labeling of specimens.
Organize, handle, and transport specimens to the laboratory; ensure specimens are properly processed and stored.
Follow quality-control and safety protocols to maintain specimen integrity and support accurate test results.
Maintain and calibrate phlebotomy equipment and supplies, ensuring they are functional and properly sanitized.
Perform more complex or specialized phlebotomy procedures as needed, often with minimal supervision.
Record patient data and collaborate with other departments to support effective patient care.
