The Phlebotomy Support Technician is responsible for the collection and processing of blood and other specimens as directed. This role performs proper specimen collection by confirming patient ID, collecting specimens in proper tubes, utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques, and accurately labeling the specimens to ensure accurate patient results. The technician also processes specimens appropriately for subsequent testing and accesses, updates information, and makes corrections to orders as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Certified as a Phlebotomy Technician or Medical Laboratory Assistant from a nationally recognized laboratory certifying agency (for Tech II)
  • Phlebotomist II’s have 30 days from the expiration date of their certificate to provide an updated certification, as long as there is documentation that certification renewal has been applied for.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in teams
  • Proficient in using computers and computer systems

Nice To Haves

  • 3 months phlebotomy experience in a laboratory setting (for Tech II)
  • 6 months phlebotomy experience (for Tech II)
  • 6 months phlebotomy experience OR 1 year related experience (for Tech I)
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different levels of management.
  • Excellent customer service, time management, interpersonal, presentation, organization, prioritizing, decision-making, and planning skills. (for Tech I)

Responsibilities

  • Collection and processing of blood and other specimens as directed.
  • Performing proper specimen collection by confirming patient ID, collecting specimens in proper tubes, utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques, and accurately labeling the specimens to ensure accurate patient results.
  • Processing specimens appropriately for subsequent testing.
  • Accessioning, updating information, and making corrections to orders as needed.
